Wall Art

I needed something for a small wall we have just outside the dining room next to our laundry room. Since it was right outside our dining room, I wanted something high-ish end but the prices for the paintings I found were outrageous, $500 - $1,000 for a painting by a no-name artist, no thank you! I figured this couldn't be too hard and I started researching different DIY wall art. The most common technique I found was using joint compound.

This is what I bought...cute but didn't want cows staring at me while I ate.

This (among other similar paintings) was my inspiration.

I didn't want to spend a ton of money on this, so I searched FB Marketplace for a few weeks until I saw something that would work; paid $20. I started by spray painting the frame black, then I mixed white chalk paint in with our original wall color and painted the canvas. Once that dried, I added 2 layers of joint compound. I knew I wanted to personalize this in some way so during the second layer, I made an outline of the design I wanted. I then added some leftover roman clay from the fireplace for some color.

Bellissimo!

This was a SUPER easy project that I did in a weekend and I love it. It ended up turning out really nice, and now I have a Hannah original painting :).
